Modelling the ALR
Depicting the ALR in miniature
The Ashover Light Railway model used for display at events.
The society also has a much larger model which is awaiting restoration, though it will require a very large and permanent display area to house it. the plan is that the eventual rebuilding and restoration of the Where The Rainbow Ends café will provide a new home for what will be a stunning depiction of the ALR.
Member Brian love has built an absolutely superb model of Fallgate. Here it is as published in 009 News, some years ago. the editor hopes to gain access to the original negatives of the pictures in due course.
Fallgate is an 009 layout representing Fallgate station and yard on the Ashover Light Railway some time in the late 1930’s. This means that it is constructed to a scale of 4mm/ft (1:76) which is the UK’s 00 gauge, to a track gauge of 9mm, hence 009. This gauge scales to 2′3″ but is used by modellers to represent narrow gauges from 60cm to 2′6″. Brian is a member of the 009 Society, and since 1998 it has been extensively exhibited throughout Southern and Eastern England.
